Diamond Beach Nusa Penida

Bali Islands

Two of my favourite islands closest to Bali would have to be the calm and tranquil Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. They are just a short boat ride from Sanur Harbour.

The islands are known for their crystal clear waters, dramatic coastal cliffs, and relaxed island charm.

Visitors can explore incredible viewpoints, snorkel with manta rays, and unwind at peaceful beaches.

Although it is possible to visit the islands year-round, the best time to visit Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan is during Bali’s dry season (April to October). This is when the seas are calm and you’ll enjoy excellent visibility underwater if you are snorkelling as well as smooth ferry crossings.

Kelingking Beach Nusa Penida

Kelingking Beach

Also known as T-Rex Cliff, this is one of Nusa Penida’s most photographed spots. Kelingking offers breathtaking views from the cliffs.

The steep walk down to the beach is challenging, but the secluded beach at the bottom is beautiful and rewarding.

Manta Ray Nusa Penida

Manta Bay

One of Nusa Penida’s most famous dive and snorkelling spots, Manta Bay is where visitors have the chance to swim alongside manta rays in their natural habitat.

If you are viewing the manta rays from a boat, it’s still an incredible sight. For confident swimmers, joining a guided snorkelling tour offers an amazing experience.

Diamond Beach Nusa Penida

Diamond Beach

On Nusa Penida’s east coast, Diamond Beach is a true tropical showpiece with white cliffs, blue water, and limestone pinnacles rising from the sea.

A carved staircase leads down to the sand, where visitors can enjoy breathtaking views and tranquil seclusion.

A rocky beach with small stones and pebbles, clear blue ocean water with gentle waves, and a natural rock arch formation in the distance, with a cliff covered in greenery on the left.

Atuh Beach

Nestled on Nusa Penida’s eastern coast, Atuh Beach is a stunning crescent of white sand framed by dramatic cliffs and offshore rock formations.

Reached via a steep staircase, it rewards visitors with crystal-clear turquoise water perfect for swimming at low tide and peaceful sunbathing away from crowds.

Small local warungs serve fresh coconuts and snacks, making it an ideal spot to relax and take in one of the island’s most picturesque coastal landscapes.

A coastal scene viewed from a metal staircase leading down a hillside. The ocean has turquoise water with white waves, and there are rocky cliffs and formations along the shoreline.

Peguyangan Waterfall

A hidden gem on the Nusa Penida’s south coast, Peguyangan is reached via a steep blue staircase clinging to the cliffside.

The descent rewards visitors with small temple shrines, freshwater pools, and sweeping views over the ocean.

Peguyangan is a blend of spiritual and natural beauty.

Broken Beach Nusa Penida

Broken Beach

This spectacular coastal arch on Nusa Penida was formed by the collapse of a limestone cave, leaving a circular cove open to the sea.

The natural bridge above the turquoise waters makes for a stunning viewpoint and is located close to Angel’s Billabong.

Angel's Billabong Nusa Penida

Angel’s Billabong

Angel’s Billabong is a natural infinity pool carved into the rocky coastline that glistens with emerald water when conditions are calm.

At low tide, visitors can see crystal-clear pools and amazing coral patterns beneath the surface.

Caution is needed here when the waves are strong.

Tropical beach with tall palm trees, white sand, clear blue water, green hillside, and boats in the distance under a bright blue sky.

Crystal Bay

A calm, palm-fringed beach known for excellent snorkelling and diving, Crystal Bay is one of Nusa Penida’s most accessible and relaxing spots.

The bay’s coral reefs are vibrant, and lucky divers may even encounter the seasonal mola-mola (sunfish) between July and October.

Yellow Bridge Nusa Lemgongan

Yellow Bridge

The brightly painted suspension bridge connecting Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan has become an island landmark.

There are lovely views across the turquoise channel and crossing the bridge is part of the fun when exploring the islands by scooter.

Dream Beach Nusa Lembongan

Dream Beach

Dream Beach is a beautiful cove on Nusa Lembongan with soft white sand and turquoise water.

This beach is ideal for sunbathing, swimming (in calm conditions), or enjoying the clifftop views from nearby cafés.

It’s a compact, scenic spot that captures the relaxed charm of Nusa Lembongan.

Devil's Tear Nusa Lembongan

Devil’s Tear

One of the Nusa Lembongan’s most dramatic coastal spots, Devil’s Tear showcases nature’s power as waves crash into a rocky inlet, sending misty plumes high into the air.

Sunset here is spectacular, with golden light reflecting off the spray.

Visitors should stay safely back from the edge.

Sandy Bay Nusa Lembongan

Sandy Bay

A picturesque cove just around the corner from Devil’s Tear, Sandy Bay is known for its white sand, turquoise waves, and relaxed seaside atmosphere.

It’s home to the Sandy Bay Beach Club, where visitors can enjoy cocktails and oceanfront dining as waves crash against the rocks.

Swimming in the Bay is not for beginners! Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful place to unwind, watch the sunset, and take in the Nusa Lembongan’s rugged coastal beauty.

Mushroom Bay Nusa Lembongan

Mushroom Bay

Known for its calm, clear waters and range of beachside restaurants and resorts, Mushroom Bay is one of the best swimming beaches on Nusa Lembongan.

It’s also a hub for snorkelling trips, banana boats, and transfers to Nusa Ceningan via the iconic Yellow Bridge.

How to Get There

Reaching Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan is easy and scenic, with regular fast boat services departing daily from Sanur Harbour. The journey takes around 30–45 minutes, depending on the destination and sea conditions.

  • To Nusa Lembongan: Boats arrive at Jungut Batu, the island’s main beach.

  • To Nusa Penida: Boats dock at Toyapakeh/Banjar Nyuh Harbour on the northwestern side of the island.

Both locations are close to car and scooter rentals for exploring the islands.

The Yellow Bridge connects Nusa Lembongan to Nusa Ceningan and local boats can take you between Lembongan and Penida in 10–15 minutes.

Once on the islands, getting around is part of the adventure. Scooter hire is the most popular option, though travellers can also book private drivers or guided tours for comfort and ease, especially on Nusa Penida’s rougher roads.
